I have been living, breathing, and dreaming IKEA lately. Why? Because I got this idea in my head that I wanted to completely redo my kitchen. Let me tell you a little secret . . . IKEA is stressing me out! I went online to use their kitchen planner and 12 hours later, finalized my design. Then I went to the store to look at everything I had picked out only to find that the white finish on the cabinets was more of an off-white. Now I can't decide if I should do it in a wood tone, or pick a different style altogether. I browse their kitchen brochure constantly, check out all the nitty gritty details online, measure and remeasure every tiny inch of my kitchen, watch installation videos, measure the kitchen again, and generally waste a lot of valuable time trying to decide if I really can squeeze in a dishwasher. Plus, they offer WAY too many options. This is not good for someone as indecisive as me. I picked out the countertop I wanted and then found out that if you are installing it in an 'L' shape, you just butt the two pieces together at a 90 degree angle . . . huh? That's not how countertops are supposed to be done. I guess I will get them somewhere else. But really. What can you expect for almost two grand less than everywhere else . . . caviar on a McDonald's budget? Honestly, yes. That's what I expect. Especially for the amount of work I'm doing.

We used IKEA cabinets in a kitchen in New York. They looked great. We had a seam in our granite countertop too. Not because it was L-shaped, but because it was too long. Professionals installed it and the seam was hardly noticable. It wouldn't be the end of the world to use two pieces and save all that cash. Good luck!

Bec, you should talk to Julie Jackson. They used Ikea and it looks really good. They used a style similar to that.
I was just thinking yesterday (while assembling a bookcase)that I cannot wait for the day that I can afford something other than Ikea furniture and I don't have to spend days assembling the particle board beauties.
Abbi, I checked out Julie's cabinets last week which was what helped me decide to go with IKEA. She actually has the style of cabinets I want to get. Now if I can only decide on the rest of the kitchen . . .

You should just buy that other house, and save yourself the stress! I mean, I will help you if you want. I love putting together Ikea stuff. :)
Amen. Dirk and I were just discussing putting in a new kitchen at one of our rentals and he said, "We just need to download the IKEA kitchen planner and get to work!" Ugh. The very thought of doing that again makes me want to ditch the whole project! We tried it once before with that same house and actually did end up ditching the whole project! I just cannot visualize things well when they are laid out that way. But I don't trust him enough to do it without me. Maybe there is a marital lesson here somewhere.
